I posted this as a reply to another user who asked about Gamergate but I thought I'd make a separate post for those who never knew its history and its importance.

Gamergate was, on a smaller scale, exactly what you've seen the media do to Trump.

I was conservative/Republican before Gamergate, and I knew the media had a liberal slant, but I never knew how much the media colluded and lied to form a propaganda narrative until Gamergate opened my eyes.

it began when an SJW game "developer," Zoe Quinn (who currently writes for DC comics?) had a shitty game called DepressionQuest. It was trash, 3 people played it, no one who was going to a website to read about Call of Duty or World of Warcraft gave 2 shits about DepressionQuest.

However, it turns out all these shitty sites like Kotaku, RockPaperShotgun and various other gaming "news" sites are all run by the same group of hivemind people from San Francisco. All of them pushing their SJW propaganda, and failed at life so ended up being "games journalists" and instead of actually caring and talking about games people cared about, they pushed their shitty SJW games like DepressionQuest.

So when some news broke on 4chan about how the developer of DepressionQuest was sleeping around with some "journalist" who pushed her game a couple times, the "ethics in games journalism" and KotakuInAction was born.

So she got shit on in normal 4chan style, and I'm sure some nasty things were said of course.

However, a few days later like 15 different gaming sites published articles, all written by different people, but they all had the same message. Gamers are sexist. Obvious collusion. Turns out all these people were in chats together and all knew each other.

So then the Gamergate stuff diverged into 2 separate tracks, those like me who became staunch anti-sjw and those that actually gave a fuck about "ethics in games journalism." That divide still exists, hence 2 KotakuInAction reddits/wins.

I never cared about games journalism per se, I cared about SJW activism. And if you were reading the shit every day you could see the Wikipedia articles being rewritten with false propaganda, you could see the lying articles come out non stop, you could see charlatans like Anita Sarkessian who never played a game in her life go on late night talk shows to talk shit about gamers and spew her SJW bullshit, you could even see Law and Order SVU episodes made based on the crap. You could see in real time a bunch of trans women who and other charlatans outright making shit up, and telling lies, and having the press repeat the lies over and over and over and once you saw that, the red pill was shoved so far up your ass you would never trust any news propaganda media again.

The left tried to portray it as racists sexists gamers harrassing poor females in games cause boys didn't like girls around. Which any gamer knew was laughable, when I was 12 playing a super Nintendo don't you think I would have loved a girl there with me? Hah of course, all guy gamers would have. So the whole premise is bullshit. Its the same bullshit that goes on today with Women in STEM, all the SJW bullshit that gets spewed all the time like we're alt-right, we're nazis, we're racists, mysoginst etc.

So gamergate was a microcosm of what was to come, a bellwether, a canary in the coal mine.

I was largely blind to the SJW shit and what was going on, but that opened my eyes to a point I'd never trust the media again. I saw the same shit happening with Trump, which is why he's had my steadfast support since 2015. I hope he can destroy this menance or it will eat us all alive. The SJW shit in games spread to just about everything else, Magic:TG, tabletop games, comics, anime, to big business like Goodyear and Gilette. Its everywhere. It started with gamergate.

Its a virus that has far greater consequences on our future that COVID ever could. It is essence, the culture war we are all apart of now.
