It's not quite black and white like others have suggested, There IS in fact a difference between private property and public space as well as private property that is considered "generally open to the public" ie: walmart. Just be aware of the specific rules where you are, if you are in fact inside a business. You don't have a reasonable expectation of privacy, that part is correct but don't let that confuse you into thinking you have "a right to film" on private property. Photographing private property from the public domain however, is not illegal (unless that area is generally deemed "private") but as I'm sure you can already tell this subject has a ton of intricacies to it.
