I suspect there was a quiet conversation, probabilities and potentials were evaluated.
A consensus was reached that West's candidacy, or at least, publicly floating the rumor of such a candidacy, would be a net positive for President Trump, at least for the time being.
It may turn out that he drops before the election, and endorses the President. Or that he stays in through Election Day, if that might be more helpful.
Me too, but presidentially speaking, it hasn't been easy since.
