It’s hard, because I understand their feelings but they don’t understand mine. I understand how it could be frustrating that I don’t share their hatred for police brutality, since I think changing the system to what they are proposing would cost more innocent black lives than what’s currently happening... and more money. I understand why they could conflate that into meaning I don’t care about the well being of black people, even though that’s not how I feel.
We both feel like the other is misguided in their thinking, but I am misrepresented as a bigot or maybe even a racist. Neither of us is going to change our minds, but they are the ones that shut down communication because I don’t think like them. I guess it’s really important to them. We both feel like victims as a result of the very quick discussion we had. Nobody really won, I can see why conservatives tend to stay quiet and why people were so shocked Trump was elected.
Well, they’ve basically ostracized me and are going to continue giving me the silent treatment because they don’t want the conflict of making a definitive decision and also know we have a lot of history. They probably think they’re doing me a favor by not unfriending me.
I just moved to Boston which is slightly less liberal than NYC but it still seems quite blue in my age group. If I still lived near them they might not be acting this way.
I’ve lost all of my friends in the past 2 weeks for not blindly supporting every aspect of BLM and disagreeing with ACAB.
It feels weird. I barely even spoke about it, but I think they saw that I lacked compassion and empathy for people doing bad things and they couldn’t relate.
One of my close black friends started to completely ignore me, but she’s also leeching off the system and not working while claiming disability and she only follow black twitter/news accounts so we were never going to be too close.

I'm not that sure, other than Trump allowed oil drilling in an Alaskan reserve and more off-shore oil drilling. Honestly, I try to avoid the news as much as possible because I find it pretty exhausting and usually only half-true.
Yes, China sucks and I think covid is blown way out of proportion but to be honest I love being able to work from home and I think a lot of people feel that way and why we're where we are right now.
Biden's policies allegedly will put us on track to be carbon neutral by 2050. Which he may just be lying about and trying to get the Bernie votes and may not really happen if he gets elected anyway. But Trump doesn't seem to have any kind of policy like that at all from the website I was looking at so I'm not sure. And also the US may move towards that state naturally as renewable energy becomes cheaper than traditional energy sources in more places and may not need government intervention.
I work as a financial advisor so from my experience of looking through their finances, about half of wealthy people are actually not contributing much to society in the way you described, and are just inheriting money through trusts and so doubling the estate tax exemption isn't helpful at all and just allows those already well off to potentially just increase their wealth and their family's future wealth even more through compounding interest while not doing anything.
Your point about free speech does make me feel a bit better about the thread I saw earlier and helps put it into perspective. Although I don't know how gay people could destroy a neighborhood to be honest unless there's a lot of trans people wearing dresses. But I think of trans people as being separate from the gay community though that is probably because of my own personal beliefs about them. Black people, that I can definitely understand based on what has been happening...
