There was a camaraderie at sea you just don't have on shore duty. But I really enjoyed the instructing in the training command. I hope you do, too.
Flair, but no flare. We plunked the jet down on the aircraft carrier deck to avoid the tailhook snagging the arresting wires mid-flight and slamming the plane to the deck. We made fun of Air Force types with the saying, "Flare to land...squat to pee." KEK I imagine the current crowd of Navy folks would get cancelled pretty hard if they said that in today's PC environment.

My brother-in-law also flew S-3s. When his training command skipper announced that at the winging my mother-in-law could tell he was disappointed. She asked, "What's so bad about that airplane? It looks cool." He replied, "Mom! It has windshield wipers!"

Ships have pilots (think "harbor pilot"). Navy had to differentiate airplane pilot and designated them "Naval Aviators."
