Apart from the fucked up zero bail system...anyone else notice that this guy may be the least effective hitman in history? Seriously, 7 shootings and not one actual homicide? You shot one guy three times in broad daylight from 15 feet away and still couldn't kill him? The Bloods should kick him out just for being incompetent.
I note that they didn't really do much of this before the exhibition games. They waited until the actual playoffs started to make sure they had as many people watching as possible. Wouldn't surprise me to find out later that they avoided doing it before the exhibition games so that the audience would think the NHL actually had some damn sense. Probably didn't want to alienate us too early.
I also notice they did this while also launching a line of customizable social justice hoodies for sale on the website. Actual social justice doesn't come with a brand logo and merchandise.
Yeah. Sadly it looks like the NHL decided to bend the knee as well...literally. The display before the Oilers vs. Blackhawks game was disgraceful. Brought out Matt Dumba from the Wild just before the game to specifically talk about systemic racism and then kneel for the US anthem. I didn't stick around to see if they disrespected Canada as well.
This was from June 8th. They've posted nothing along these lines since. They have, however, done fundraisers for first responders. Garnet Hathaway is a finalist for the NHL's King Clancy award for his work raising money for local first responders. By the way, the NHL returned to play with no BLM crap or anthem protests.
Loyalty. I grew up there and stuck with them through all the years of disappointment and failure. I'm keeping my eyes open. They haven't put anything out as a team since that one on June 8th. Like I said, if they do anything stupid when they resume then I'll be done with them...as painful as that will be after 34 years.
Also, the NHL has had to fight for its US audience. Every lockout or strike has really hurt their following here, much more so than for the NBA, MLB, or NFL. Kneeling or otherwise protesting the US during games will alienate the few that consistently stick with them.
This was an immediate response in early June. The fact that there hasn't been anything else since gives me hope. NHL was about the only sport that didn't have anyone kneel last time. I'm hoping they learn from watching the backlash that's happening to other sports and don't go down that road. That said, if they start kneeling too then I'm done with them.
I've been a Caps fan since 1986. Holtby is generally a good goalie, but his politics have always pissed me off. The only tweet I saw from Ovi was expressing sorrow for Floyd's death and condolences for his family, but he didn't actually add #BlackLivesMatter at the end. But I'm not on Twatter so I may have just missed it in a later post.
I don't care what happene before this. His hands were up at the time of each shot. Plus there was a woman holding small children standing directly behind him. What if they miss and hit one of the kids? Irresponsible at best, just adding fuel to the current fires at worst.
