Shows just what a hold Twitter has on communications that so many people are on it even though it’s terrible. The fact that I can refer to someone’s Twitter username using an @ without any context and anyone will just understand “oh that’s a Twitter name” to the point that news anchors will list it under their name on TV shows that Twitter is ubiquitous, it’s as pervasive in communications as TV channels or phone numbers. If they’re convicted of antitrust I wonder how a solution would look like to force them to allow other providers to integrate into their network in the same way that AT&T had to let in 3rd party phone companies to their long distance service; maybe you could host your own Twitter server and they’d communicate in the way that Mastodon and Scuttlebutt instances communicate. Then again if droves of people leave Twitter for Gab or Parler if it ever gets back online maybe Twitter will become the next Digg.

Load a video halfway then just stop. Refresh the page, load it 3/4 of the way and slow to a stop. Refresh the page, load for a second and stop 😂

I don’t like censorship at all but remember the “day of blackout” they had where all the different sites went dark for a day in support of political activism and you couldn’t access any music anywhere, even on the radio and sites all went offline and were replaced with BLM stuff? Remember the SOPA / PIPA blackout days where you couldn’t access sites due to concerns from the left about online censorship? Over and over they’ve been pulling these stunts; it’s okay to disrupt services in protest or support of political causes in their playbook. Can’t say I’m surprised that others are adopting this playbook; they’ve seen for years it’s okay!

I wish I could read docs without being blasted about politics. It’s everywhere now in tech products. Go to Google’s docs about material design and there was a huge black bar across the page talking about BLM. MomentJS changed their masthead to BLM stuff and encourages donating to the MN Freedom Fund. Every project requires you to agree to some code of conduct to contribute. Why not just keep the projects related to the code?

I got a license but what makes me uncomfortable is that anyone can look up your call sign and get your address from the FCC. I can just imagine the left monitoring for any speech they don’t like, looking up the call signs and paying them a personal visit. Now maybe the PO Box is the answer...

I expect that soon Apple, Google and co. will start to backtrack on their stances on privacy now that Trump supporters will be using end-to-end encryption on messenger services where they aren’t as easily moderated. Moderation of the type we’re seeing them advocate for and privacy are opposites of each other and I can’t see them fully endorsing heavy moderation while also fully endorsing private conversations.

Wait, this is their reasoning?!!!

I shouldn’t be surprised I guess. This is how their minds work; it’d be fascinating if it wasn’t so outrageous. Those are some wild interpretations.

The redundancy aspect of IRC is good enough that even Bitcoin has used it for their network. I’d be interested in an IRC network for sure

IRC and NNTP (USENET) lol. But really, both are robust and were designed to be decentralized. Universities would have their servers, ISPs would have theirs and people would connect to their provider’s server. If someone’s server went down there were dozens of others that relayed the info and so it was tough to knock out the network as a whole.

If encryption can be used on these protocols it may be worth a shot since IRC is pretty much as old as the Internet and thus would likely have apps on iOS / Android. All these new protocols seem to mostly have TestFlight iOS apps that you can’t get in the store, and if Apple is starting to go on a tirade against uncensored hangout spots I doubt they’ll start removing ancient apps and protocols to do it.

I’ve never heard anyone saying to cope like it’s some sort of insult before this whole thing started. Is it a well known phrase to use in the context of insults or is it something the left cooked up this week? So many non-supporters invading and saying the same thing makes me think it’s actually a small amount of people making account after account and saying the same thing.

I miss old Twitter before they turned it into a news site (edit: poor choice of words on my part, really a biased publisher) this was in 2008 or so and whenever you published a status it was on the front page for all to see.

Yeah I’d be disappointed (well, that’s an understatement) if Trump loses and they can prove that he lost legitimately. Like okay, we’ll have lost and we’ll get em next time for sure.

But there’s so much up in the air and if he loses due to forged ballots that’s not at all acceptable. If in fact it is forgery or some other illegal act they’re gonna do this year after year and we’ll have a 3rd world corrupt election where voting doesn’t matter and those with the power to cheat will decide winners. If they’re going to claim Biden is the winner we should be able to see the proof and verify it, or we’ll forever be questioning the integrity of future elections.

I understand how sports fans feel now. Except that unlike sports there are very real consequences if our team wins or loses here.

My mom has been a Republican all her life. I was picked on for it by my peers, their parents and the teachers in different ways growing up (very liberal area). I’m an independent, mostly Republican. Libertarian on some issues, economically conservative and in support of some government regulations (reigning in big tech) but not others. I believe in strong national security. President Trump is the best man for the job and it’s truly remarkable all that he does for the US and for the world.

I found .win after y’all migrated from Reddit (good move) and it’s been my digital haven from TDS lunatics for a while. It’s comforting to know that there are so many people who believe like we do and aren’t under the spell of the MSM and social media giants. When almost everyone you know irl either disagrees with you or is uninformed about the state of the world it’s rather isolating. Lots of good people here.

I was getting ice cream today and saw at least 100 cars in a parade for Trump. I’ve heard of it happening but this was the first time I saw it with my own eyes. It was glorious! And unlike the left’s rallies not a single window was broken, nobody was injured, nothing was looted. Everyone was nice and cheering and honking and clapping. Really gives me hope this will all turn out okay.

And yet in the hearing with Ted Cruz, Jack Dorsey doesn’t think Twitter influences elections. Okay... so allow everything in that case.
