Apple needs to lose their iron grip on what apps are allowed or not. If a .win app existed or is in development there’s not a good chance it’d be approved right now. Same thing for Ruqqus or any other free-speech platform. I believe if Apple was unable to ban apps except for illegal content (which includes viruses, phishing, copyright infringement, etc.) which all US companies need to remove anyway, platforms such as Reddit / Twitter would have fallen in popularity long ago. Being able to have an app has put them at such an advantage in terms of exposure and convenience. Web apps are a nice stop gap but they don’t have push notifications or as swanky UIs.
Yup. When I signed up it was behind a VPN with a username unrelated to me, and an email unrelated to me. I still feel like “my acquaintances will find out I’m on here and ruin my life just because I signed up” when people can get fired for liking tweets, wearing t shirts or following accounts OFF the job. This feels like the right community for me since I can finally speak my mind. I agree with a lot of people on here, but I don’t agree with everybody on everything. I’m not crucified for it though; indeed I’ve had some healthy disagreements and we treat each other with mutual respect. Can’t do that on Facebook... can’t even have a discussion in real life unless I’m with my closest friends.
Since I joined up here I’ve tried to get off of Facebook and Reddit. I now go here pretty much exclusively, though I very much miss the small subs that never got infected by wokeness. Facebook has become a terrible place and I don’t much miss it.
I definitely understand that point of view. When you’re on the job your actions absolutely represent your company, for instance a Coca-Cola employee can’t be seen in uniform drinking Pepsi. If someone sees that I gotta imagine they would attribute the action to the company rather than that particular employee. In this case it is the CEO and I do get what you’re saying. The article where I saw this mentions CFA by name. What he’s saying isn’t mild either; it’s pretty inflammatory.
I honestly don’t know; like, on one hand I feel like if I were to boycott them over this it’d be no better than when the liberals boycotted them over the COO’s stance on marriage being between a man and a woman. I see a lot of companies being much more aggressive (one told me in an email to get my humanity checked if I disagreed with them) so while this guy’s stance may well be infecting their corporate culture, so far their public image (official communications) is apolitical.
If I do change my mind mind it will be difficult due to my long-standing bias towards CFA; they’ve always treated me well and seem to run a cleaner, faster and more professional restaurant than others I go to. I’ve wanted to believe for a long time that they were a stand-out “good” restaurant when all the others caved to the left, but I see it isn’t the case. It’s incongruent with what I wanted to be true and I’m struggling with that. My personal feelings have absolutely nothing to do with the facts of course, but it’s something need to I deal with in this situation. In that regard I may well be no better than the left is, but I do try to make myself aware of my own biases and to point them out / not use them as arguing points.
But yeah, your point of view definitely makes sense to me and I hadn’t considered it like that before. He isn’t just some cashier or cook; he runs the whole thing and therefore whether it’s on or off the job, the argument could be made that his beliefs are the company’s.
I find the CEO’s words insulting and annoying, but I just can’t bring myself to boycott them (for now). They haven’t put out statements as a company saying this, afaik... it’s more like this is the guy’s personal philosophy. I disagree with it completely, but I’ll agree to disagree. I haven’t gotten a notification from the app or a black and white somber email or anything like that from CFA directly, which is where I’d be much more likely to boycott. My local CFA treats me very well and they never push agendas or narratives at me.
Please tell me this is a joke. This is like saying you should rename C# (the C-sharp programming language) because the word “sharp” can be associated with weapons like swords or knives. I know GitHub has gone off the deep end but isn’t Microsoft as a parent company mature enough to keep them in check? Doesn’t anyone have a brain anymore?
Public forum my ass. I used to love posting to Twitter back in the late 00’s but so much of the userbase started getting so woke and angry that I mostly stopped interacting with it. .win has shown me there are plenty of moderate and conservative voices on there but it appears to be rigged just enough that they can elevate the left and push down non-left content. Eventually they’ll push too hard and everyone with a dissenting opinion will leave like happened on Reddit.
Seattle is Dying is a great documentary about the decline of Seattle under liberal policies. It’s a pretty good redpill I’ve found; lots of my friends who have seen it have a new outlook on the “homeless” / drug problems that plague Seattle, SF, LA, etc.
When I voted in 2016 I thought my vote wouldn’t count. “Hillary is gonna win no matter what we do; why bother?” Every blog and news site looked like they were already celebrating her win a day early. I went to bed early that night thinking we lost.
Voting obviously does make the difference! We can’t get complacent and think like the Dems in 2016. Gotta get out there and make every vote count.
I heard of it only yesterday when someone wrote into a radio show and said they were a black Trump supporter who was not going to support him anymore because of it. Had to look it up to find out. Assuming the guy who wrote in wasn’t a concern troll, I wonder how many people thought like they did and how many will reconsider now that the date has been moved.
Patriot Mobile advertises on the radio shows I listen to and is openly conservative. I don’t use them so can’t personally vouch for their service but I gotta believe there’s no chance they’ll go woke.
Surprisingly to me, yes! Out of the blue one day I got this text message:
Hi, I'm — from VBC Research with a quick survey. Would you vote to re-elect President Trump if the election were held today?
1.No 2.Yes
Voted yes. They thanked me and that was it.
Looking it up just now apparently others have gotten this too and if they vote no, it asks them to vote for Bernie so I’m not sure it was legitimate.
This episode of KoTH comes to mind. Cut off services and it’s all over.
In high school I “dated” a girl since she claimed she’d kill herself if I didn’t. I felt sorry for her. She ended up having so many problems that I finally saw through it and ended things. Got a call from her years later and she was doing fine though still not quite right.
Then I fell for basically the same trap with someone else right out of college. Absolute disaster. I’ve learned my lesson now.
My thinking is this: I won’t boycott a company if their CEO and I happen to disagree. I won’t boycott them if people who work for them personally are posting their opinions (not on the company’s brand account but just personally). I’d be no better than those on the left that boycott Chick-Fil-A. I will look for alternatives and / or jump ship if possible however if a company starts sending me emails lecturing me on social issues. At this point they’re no longer keeping their opinions private, they’re taking a company-wise stance: “this is what our company believes”.
Of course it’s also the tone too. If a company kinda panders like “we think this is important and we’re gonna try harder to improve ourselves blah blah blah” I might just ignore it. If they’re sending me an email saying “this is about RIGHT vs WRONG and you’d better be on the right side! You aren’t humane you disagree!” I’m dropping them in an instant. No way you insult your customers and expect them to keep doing business with you.
He speaks as a common man for common people, something which works pretty well for resonating with people. He’s also a great reader of crowds and a great entertainer. Every time I hear a Trump speech where he’s talking about “we have the greatest ___” or telling hecklers to “go home to mommy” it’s just like he’s saying what everyone in the room is thinking. For as much hate as the left throws his way I bet they wish they had a viable candidate with his skills.
Indeed! Before I stumbled upon t_d and subsequently .win I was demoralized. Felt like the whole Internet disagreed with me. It’s nice to see there are a lot more people who are closer to my political opinion than I thought. Facebook and Reddit are overflowing with wokeness and I’m just so sick of it. I was raised as a libertarian in a liberal area and from 2nd grade on I was bullied by other kids, teachers, administrators, the parents of my friends and my friends too trying to force me to be a democrat. We had a mock election in 2000 and 96% voted for Gore, it was that type of school. For a while in elementary school I just wanted to be a democrat so I could stop the bullying. Glad I stuck to the values I was raised with instead, even though it isn’t always easy. It’s nice to be in a community now where people are accepting.
All these people look so young. It’s like they’re just now finding out how the world works. How did we get here? In school I bet some of their parents threatened the school when they failed tests and the teachers caved and changed their grades or gave them extra credit. I bet college admins surrendered to them when they said they felt unsafe when speakers would come on campus with a dissenting opinion. Now on the news they see Chaz and the other “protests” and they have no fear. Whatever they want, they tend to get. Adults tend to just give in no matter what, and bend over backwards to appease them. Until now, anyway, when they realize that there are some people who won’t just fold. They look so surprised.
