It's taken me a long time to find a relationship with God I feel comfortable with, but even when I didn't know what I believed or what was out there God was always waiting for me patiently
I identify as sort of a Gnostic Christian, that might be what you're looking for- I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, and that Jesus is the one true son of God, and that many of the parables in the Bible relate to metaphysics and are also allegories about the human condition and science. Gnosticism talks a lot about the idea of the 'darkness before the light' being a place of birth, and the state of emptying yourself of thought through meditation to be 'gnosis' which makes way for God's light to be brought into the world. Kind of similar to Hinduism and Buddhism in that it encourages meditation and self introspection. I like a lot of Buddhist technique and quotes about kindness and introspection. I'm not into the crazier Gnostic stuff but I find the Nag Hammadi scriptures to be fascinating, make a lot of sense, and corroborate with the Bible. I also don't like the current Pope and while I love to go to church, I like having an individual, meditation based connection with God as well. Some orthodox Christians will disagree with me and that's fine but I've found that a combination of biblical study, church, private meditation, and positive thought works wonders in my life. In general I believe that the Christian Bible is closest to God, and is also metaphysical and connects to science, and that meditation is beneficial and God is love and loves us all.
