Studies prior to COVID all show standard masks dont do much, and even in an OR, anyone not directly over a patient is wearing one for optics. We all knew this a year ago, but somehow that's changed. If you need a more scientific answer, I wear an 02 sat monitor all day long at work with a mask on, and the mask makes no difference to my oxygen saturation. This is repeatable, and observable.
I mean, they look ridiculous, and its not accomplishing anything. But its not damaging their brain. Masks don't do anything, including cause brain damage from low oxygen. They don't work for viruses, and they don't block oxygen or retain co2 to a level that is significant in any way.
