Exactly! And if he denounces it today, ask him tomorrow and say it doesn't count that he denounced yesterday... those are "historical quotes." Keep pressing this cuck as to why he just won't definitively state he doesn't beat his wife RIGHT THIS MOMENT!?
In this passage, Jesus is not telling the rich young ruler to sell everything he had because that's what was required to be saved. Instead, Jesus was reminding everyone that the Law was God’s perfect standard. If the man could can keep the Law perfectly, then he could escape sin’s penalty (death). When the man responded that he had kept the standard ever since he was a child, Jesus graciously pointed out the one issue that proved the man did not measure up to God’s holiness – he was not willing to follow the Lord if that meant he must give up his wealth. This showed him that he was a sinner just like everyone else, in need of a savior. He was unable to keep the perfect Law of the Lord, and instead of reaching out to Christ for his free forgiveness, he walked away sad. Jesus (and therefore Christianity) does not require to you sell everything and become destitute, but it does require you to humble yourself and realize that you cannot be saved by works, but only by the forgiveness of God offered through Jesus.
