I wanted to join the military, and my parents bargained for college. My mom was a Clinton liberal, and my dad was a hardcore Clinton-hating conservative. Dad would say things, then Mom would call me over and explain why Dad is wrong. I got Fox news when Dad was home, and CNN when Mom was home alone.
I got to college with a very neutral view because of my upbringing. Hearing Obama speak, and then seeing the majority of my peers fawn over him, was the red pill of my lifetime. And I didn't even know I was being red pilled. I was just aghast that people could believe a word this man? was saying! At that point I began 8 years of nihilism and isolation, preparing to become a martial arts teacher in some other country. I resolved myself to, "Well, Rome fell, all great empires fall."

I worked there. We hired a Chinese guy who didn't speak a word of English. He was afforded a salary, office space, etc based on a gov't research swap grant. He had lots of meetings with other Chinese-speaking folks at UPenn. Once he went back to China, professors in our department started getting lots of speaking engagements in China.
