I do like Yang but I think his ideas are a bit early. There will soon come a time where there simply isn't enough jobs for people because of technological advances. But I think it's still about 20 years out. By then though he should be a more seasoned politician so we might be seeing some Yang 2036 or 2040 action. First off regardless if Biden or Bernie win, I suspect the Dem party will be so fractured that they won't really be a threat in 2020 (as long as every Republican does their job and comes out to vote). But I want Biden to win just so I can watch the presidential debates. It's going to be glorious.

There is definitely going to be some negative economic results of the virus. Big parts of the world are in quarantine. In other parts of the world normal business is being changed in an attempt to limit the virus' effects. Vacations will be canceled. Just to name a few things. The extent of this effect though is yet to be known. There very well could be a recession it depends on how long the fear hits for and how long it will take the global supply chain to get back up to full speed. So we should be real about it, but if you're not selling your stocks in the next year you probably don't need to panic.

Oil prices are not good and there's some cause for concern because of all the quarantines and psychological effects on spending the coronavirus will have. I suspect they'll be short lived though and once there's a vaccine or much lower mortality rates - as we're already seeing it trend that way - then it won't be as much of a concern and the market will bounce. In the meantime I've put any extra money I've had into my brokerage account just waiting to buy some index funds when it looks like the bottom has been hit. And if you're not retiring anytime soon this correction is a good thing as long as you don't sell. Because that means your 401Ks will be investing at "bargain" rates so you'll get more stocks for your dollar.

I came here like you did in 2016. I thought I would be a lifelong Democrat because in my mind they were the "good guys". The past 4 years has been very eye opening to where I now consider myself an Independent but Republican leaning. I think the main lesson I learned was that I shouldn't be tied to a single party but to the politician that best represents me. Because Republicans like GWB, Romney, Paul Ryan, McCain do not represent me. But Donald Trump for the most part seems to genuinely have the interests of the country and all our citizens as his primary concern.
I'm not arguing those points. What we've seen for example with the Somalian population where they form their own community within the larger community is not right. If you come here you should assimilate into the culture and obey the laws of the land, not whatever your previous upbringing tells you. We should definitely be better at assimilation and not just bring in people without an actual plan. You should learn english, you should learn the laws, you should be heavily vetted to make sure you hold no ill will to the US. But if you're ready to be a contributing member of this society, there should be a place for you as long as you can be a net positive to our country
