In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy hammered New York and New Jersey.

After the turn of the year, Cruz, his fellow senator John Cornyn and 23 of two dozen Texas Republicans in the House gave a thumbs down to Sandy aid.

Their excuse, they didn't like how the money was being spent. Yet McCaul wants federal tax dollars to pay Giddy, the electricity wholesale company that charged inconceivably high prices to consumers during the cold spell in Texas. I agree consumers need relief. But money to Giddy should only be allocated IF protections are made to avoid this in the future.

It all brings up the question: If power generators make the most profit when the grid is squeezed, does the unfettered amounts they can charge during those times of peak demand actually discourage them from building new power plants? That’s what everyone will be watching out for in the coming months and years.

Giddy, the Texas company, raped its consumers during the Texas freeze, because there was nothing to stop them. This is supply and demand, pure capitalism, & the pitfalls that can come from it. Texans, whose power came on and had Giddy as their supplier, were charged $10,000, even $20,000 for only a few days of power. Giddy argues it was in their contract & completely legal. And this is all true. And now consumers are rightfully outraged. So what's McCaul's solution. Use the Federal Emergency money they are getting to pay those astronomical bills for the consumers to Giddy. Yes, you heard me right. OUR hard earned money, from the federal taxes we pay, will not be used to help fix homes from water damage, but instead, go to the rapist company Giddy.

McCaul wants Federal Emergency Funds to be used to pay the $20,000 energy bills charged to consumers by Giddy, the Texas company that raped consumers during the storm. "Griddy provides access to wholesale electricity for a monthly membership. We have no markups. No contracts. No early termination fees. Our members in Texas save up to 40% by making the switch." So Giddy rapes the consumers during a national emergency. Giddy charges tens of thousands of dollars for just days of power to these poor consumers who would otherwise have frozen in their homes. Giddy's excuse - it's supply and demand - & your contract allows for this. And there are reports that Giddy is even relishing in that fact. And now McCaul suggests that Federal Emergency money - MY TAX DOLLARS - should pay those consumer's bills. Like I totally agree consumers got screwed. But not by me. They got screwed by a company called Giddy. The politicians who allow companies like Giddy to even do this because they push back on all consumer protections - let those Politicians pay those bills. Fuck Giddy, & fuck Texas for not protecting consumers in the first place.
