politicians will never be charged with treason here
they'd catch a poison handshake or have an "accident" if they got caught while the other party was in power, and they'd resign for family reasons if their party was in power
every shitty thing our government does is to preserve it's power over people. that power is very largely dependent on public opinion, and they would never allow one if their own to blow everyone else's cover by being put on trial
i tell my family that if they watch TV news we can't talk about most things because they won't understand me, and they won't believe that what I'm saying hasn't be pre-boonked as white supremacist propaganda
I ask simple question like "ever read a whole political poll to the end" or "did you know the FBI has all the crime statistics online and downloadable"
when this makes peoples eyes go wide I usually drop a line like "yeah I don't usually talk about that stuff because I don't watch TV so I never know what people are being told to over-react to and I don't want to offend them, like how Zimmerman was never going to be found guilty because there were no witnesses at all, and how george floyd asked to be on the ground because he knew he was tweaking out on all the drugs he did that day"
there could be 100 different parties represented and the actual business of government wouldn't be obstructed, they would still vote on rules and leadership and there would just be a lot more public debate
the way it works now is that every important decision is agreed to ahead of time behind closed doors before the new Senate is gaveled in, and as soon as they are in they start adopting the agreed upon paperwork for rules and leadership
the old way would be better, and mostly only serious people would have the stomach for it
