Thank you for the thorough explanation! However I’m afraid I do already understand DNS as I’m a software engineer for my occupation. In order for the change to remain as it did, it would require the compliance of the domain owner. As we can see, that didn’t exactly end up working out part way through the day. Very sad. We lost many patriots in the domain transition.

The certificate authority is VMWare.
In order for this certificate to be trusted it would have to be added locally and manually to your list of trusted certificate authorities. I use VMWare all the time but anybody can create a certificate through VMWare. I don't think it's a matter of validation. I think it's a matter of the fact that the certificate is different than it was previously.
It just seems odd to me to accuse a rogue mod of being rogue yet the "rogue" mod allowed the website administrators to put a page under the domain they control to create a page that redirects to the patriots.win URL. I think I'll just reach out directly to said "rogue" mod and get both sides of the story. This concerns our safety and all of our families.
The "rogue" mod could have set different nameservers other than those of epik at any point, and they could have done so after the redirect was put in place. I just want more transparency and explanation as to the security that concerns US, that is all.
Well, I hope so too...but that seems like a very unclear and vague statement...which is part of exactly what this post is about. Why so vague? Why so unclear? Why such sketchy messages about things that concern OUR security and OUR lives? I find it to be very unsettling. I will admit, I have not used a proxy or a VPN for every instance I have visited or used this website, and I do not want me or my family to be in jeopardy because the last remaining place on the internet for us to gather has been potentially compromised.
Hey - I only said that because I saw a mod in some other post, I think the stickied one, where somebody identified the person and they issued a warning not to dox him because of the rules. I did not make the comment about the doxing for my purposes...I just don't want any potential real patriots to be banned from here.
EDIT: I am a big proponent of the fact that we need AS MANY people on our patriot team as possible to combat the fraud and corruption we are experiencing. But like I said I'm 100% in support of what you originally said.

I went through every comment, question, and answer on the AMA thread and the thread linked by it with a few answers to some questions. I don't know. I am sketched out by what is going on, and rightfully so, given that this is the last convenient place that exists for us to communicate (including the community sections), and how there are some weird things going on regarding security and trust. I am starting to feel like we need backup chats or forums managed by people completely separate from the TDW team. Imagine if TDW disappeared overnight. What then? Imagine if ALL of our data was leaked by a rogue mod at once. I need transparency. I need trust.
If the rogue mod is indeed a rogue mod, don't you think they would have seen what is happening and reconfigured the DNS? I did multiple DNS queries and saw that it is exactly the same as it was previously. Things do not add up for me here and I want a full explanation, not some one line or one word comments in response to some questions from users who do not work IN the software and infosec industries.
EDIT: Reason being, I and everybody here have lives and livelihoods and families at possible risk. I previously trusted everything there is going on here and lately I have been growing more and more wary. Today with this stuff, I have been pushed past my line of silence regarding these matters. People are being arrested and fired from their occupations across the country for any affiliation with Trump and everything that has come from recent events.
