Don't forget that there are a lot of people who are broken in ways that can't be fixed. They need help and government interference doesn't help.
I had a friend who had spinal cancer. She had to quit all of her treatments and go into hospice just to get pain relief. There was hope for her, but she couldn't endure it.
But there are people dying in hospice with no pain relief because of the war on drugs. Dying horrible, agonizing deaths.
My daughter has chronic pancreatitis. The attacks are beyond anything most people can even imagine. Because of the lack of pain relief, she's changed her stance on euthanasia. She's confessed that, if she can't get on top of this, she will be killing herself. She's barely hanging on right now.
A few years ago my grandfather died of pancreatic cancer. He died the most agonizing, torturous way imaginable with no pain relief because, "There's a risk of addiction." The man was terminal and they were more worried about addiction than easing his way into the afterlife.
There are people who've been stable on the same dose of pain medication for years. They do have pain, but it's bearable. They're being forced off of their medications and many of them are choosing to eat a bullet because of that. They went from being somewhat productive and having some hours of joy in their lives to constant agony and bedridden.
They're even taking it out on people with bone cancer.
Veterans are being taken off their medications through the VA and they're now killing themselves because of it.
Until you've been there, you have no idea how bad pain can be. You can absolutely hurt so bad that you cannot go on. And when it's not something that can be fixed, you need a way to survive.
But now they're even sending people home after surgery with nothing but Tylenol or ibuprofen. There's no reason for that suffering. The data supports that pain patients aren't contributing significantly to the opiate problem. The problem is heroin and China's fentenyl.
I was for the war on opiates when I believed that they were only talking about addicts. Now I know that they have no limits. Nobody is safe.
This is the ONE area where I disagree with Donald Trump. Strongly. He hasn't been there and he cannot understand.
