I’m over in Montgomery county north of Houston. Power came back on bout five this morning we were out for about 30 hours. Being from northeast Ohio I was pumped for the storm and had plans to take the kiddos sledding for their first time Monday morning... found myself waking up to a freezing cold house and had to scramble up a plan. Having only a pull start generator caused me a delay. Had to bring it in by the fire to thaw it out before it’s start and by the time I got all our essentials wired up and helped my neighbor get his house wired to his generator it was about one in the afternoon. Preparedness is key. We have three kids so we’ve got two refrigerators a deep freeze two packed pantries and a few months of storable foods in my closet next to the gun safe. We also keep about twenty gallons of stored water and have a pro pure gravity filter. We pulled out the spare microwave and toaster oven and space heaters and fired up the gas fireplace. I had enough gasoline to run the generator for about 80 hours or so. I was definitely caught off guard by the states inability to cope with the smallest of winter storms.
