No, Pence can't save Trump. After the senate president counts the votes he then asks congress if there are any objections. If at least one senator and one rep object then congress splits to debate the objection. If both houses agree then the electors' votes of that state are thrown out. If one house agrees and one doesn't then the electors whose appointment was certified by the governor of that state will be counted. This is according to the Electoral Count Act of 1887 (Title 3 U.S. Code chapter 1).
How does this matter? We already know some republican congress members will object. We need democrats to start objecting so they can actually pass a vote to throw out the votes from some of the contested states.
