Oracle and Bytedance are not following the edict of President Trump's executive order. They're trying to circumvent Trump's executive order.

Effectively, if this deal goes through, China still owns TikTok, they've just licensed it to US companies.

"Amazingly, WSJ is reporting that ByteDance has accepted Oracle's "offer" for TikTok's US business, which, in reality, is more like a proposal for a licensing deal whereby Oracle will earn money by serving as BD's "trusted tech partner" in the US."

In this headline world, I will break down what's actually happening here (having read all the articles). Microsoft put forward an offer in line with CFIUS and Presidential Admin's requirements. It was rejected. Bytedance has agreed to accept Oracle's offer - only thing is, the offer is not a sale of TikTok. The Bytedance-Oracle proposition is that Bytedance and Oracle become partners, and Oracle has a license to run the US business. Bytedance doesn't, in this case relinquish the algorithm to Oracle.

Lastly, the deal is not structured as an outright sale as CFIUS and President wanted, it's structured as a 're-structure' of sorts.

So this news of a deal is bullshit as it doesn't address the executive order. They're just finding ways to circumvent the executive order which actually necessitates an outright and full sale.

"The key takeaway: the deal will not be structured as an outright sale, " -- so the executive order still stands then- an outright sale was needed.

Lol. How much does PR like this cost? If CCP doesn't have ties to TikTok then why does TikTok need approval from the CCP to sell?

it's not trump positive, you're just stuck in your algorithm.

There was bipartisan support from congress to ban the app. This court case is more for publicity, but even then popular opinion is not on the side of the app. Court case goes nowhere, seriously.

Just ban it, Mr. President. These companies are not going to do the necessary due diligence and re-write all code which will mean nothing is resolved.

I have a feeling the deal between Microsoft and Bytedance falls through and then a ban takes place.
