In 1967, when Israel was attacked by 5 invading armies, the USA spied on Israel with the USS Liberty ship, off the coast of Israel. Israel eliminated that ship (and paid restitutions to the USA for this, despite being a spy ship.)

There's more chance you get hurt because you chose to drive a car, then a chance that a seatbelt saves your life. Statistically, you have almost 100% chance to be involved in a car accident once in your life. I was involved already in 4 car accidents, minor, none of them were my fault. Nothing happened to me and a seatbelt would not have mattered in those accidents.
I wear masks, mostly because of social courtesy. I am also an older person, so it's more important for me. If I was 20 years old...

Yes, your girlfriend is right: seatbelts and mask mandates are the same - forcing people to follow rules, instead of freedom to choose. And in both cases, some people don't accept the mandates, but are FORCED to follow them.
Personally, I think the mask gives, at best, 10% protection. Just like a seatbelt - it will only save your life only in 10% of serious car accidents. For the rest, the minor car crashes, not wearing a seatbelt won't matter and not needed.
P/S: If masks work, then MILLIONS of allergy sufferers would wear them for centuries. And pollen is much bigger than a virus.
