You would think that's what they're supposed to do, but Judges can take other things into consideration and totally disregard the law if they want to. It can be "for the best interest of the public" or to maintain the public's confidence in the judicial system.
To me its bullshit. I partisanship didn't exist with judges. They're supposed to objectively interpret the law. But reality is courts split along party lines.
