The former is not likely but the latter is 100% likely if the trial happens after 1/20 when the dems hold 51% of the Senate. Unfortunately, that appears to be what will happen thanks to McConnell.
Our erstwhile party appears to have turned on us but there's still hope that a super majority doesn't follow suit.

Get involved with down ballot voting. You'd be surprised at how much control the local city council has in your community.

The term limit for POTUS is 8 years. Trump has served 4, so he has the option of running for another term. I don't believe there is anything that states that the terms have to consecutive.
