Here's a good pic of the machines we use in my county. If you see the dark rectangle between the screen and the white paper, that is where the poll worker inserts a big plastic box of some sort before you vote. It appears to reset the ballot. The worker then removes the box and steps away so you can cast your votes.
I live in WV, and I like our voting machines. I wasn't allowed to take a photo on election day, but it's a touch screen. When you select a candidate for a particular race, a paper receipt is printed for each person you select. It's like a constant roll of paper in the machine, and it prints each candidate you select. You can see it and make sure it's printing out the same candidate you selected. Then at the end of the ballot, you have to review the ballot, and if you need to make a change you can do that. I like the fact that you can actually SEE what is being printed out for you. You don't get a receipt for yourself, but you can see how your vote is recorded.
Same, I usually have Photoshop up in one, and my sign program in another. Or a browser looking for answers when I get stuck in Photoshop. Or YouTube to listen to Bannon.
