It turns out it comes from the bulk of female Nigerians who arrived pregnant or 2nd gen half white females and/or also pregnant when sold to our Colonies by them. It was actual policy in BVI.
Most slaves sent here directly were actually from West Africa, and they have almost no older white admixture- it is those of Nigerian descent skewing the averages, with a very small percentage of NA Colonies arrivals gaining additional or new white admixture here that is so distinct it can clearly be separated out.
You know who they DO have a lot of admixture from? Native Indian tribes from the South- who owned huge numbers of slaves and did not hold them separate sexually. They even took them with on the Trail of Tears, and then refused to comply with post Civil War freeing of slaves for several more years.
Oh, and the FRENCH Louisiana territories pre-US purchase are a whole other subgroup, of which many many city "blacks" had numerous slaves for generations, as well as French plantation owners. But they are also genetically distinct.

I should know, lived there for most of my adult life, and grew up on the very left liberal coast and SF.
But.... there are still pockets of quietly old school liberals and socially conservative peeps there, and even more the closer to the edges of SFBA you get. More than it seems on the surface, as definitely not safe to openly espouse most non hyper left liberal views.
Problem is the GOP have been perceived as both politically weakwilled and neocon/moral majority central since the 90s to most Californians, so very few independents and not many CA conservatives wanted to ally with those crowds.
Now that scum neocons are all in with the Dems and Biden while the religious right are calmed down (and the left go crackers a la Salem Witch Trials crossed with Maoist Cultural Rev) far more non- hyper liberal or radical left Californians are quietly rethinking their alliances and votes.
As what used to be seen as a left liberal and is now apparently a right wing conservative (LOL!) to the new Dems, and a lifetime N Californian, I am voting Trump and as many decent human being Rs as I can find- and AGAINST all the agenda ballot initiatives as well.
But I suspect that between 75-90% of anyone who has neighbor type knowledge of me assumes I am at minimum still a dutiful D voter and likely a lefty... camo is a good thing in these sketch times while living in darkbluebubbleland.

But the heavy rigging is even more entrenched. So until that is forcefully removed and then tightly audited in future we are spitting into the wind- even a large number of the independent and left of center voters.
I'm still voting. And staying.
