True Americans are comprised of Blacks, Jews, Italians, Irish, Chinese, Eskimo, Apache, Catholics, Atheists. Never forget that our vision of America is the traditional vision: the giant melting pot and collage of many peoples united in mind and heart in achieving the American Way of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. This is our mantra as true Americans. Remember pedes - the opposition are not Americans because they do not share in this vision.

Also an engineer - SI/metric is so much easier, and much more precise. Everything is a factor of 10 (e.g. 1m = 100cm), and units complement each other nicely (e.g. 1mL = 1cm^3 or 1cc). So when a doctor tells you to take 30cc's of something, that's 30mL's. It's easier to visualize
Engineering programs are totally in SI...though they do teach in imperial 0.00001% of the time as an afterthought since there are some industries that are stuck in the mud with Imperial.
As rich_wicks alluded, imperial is such a headache in the engineering/science community. When we're forced to provide something in Imperial, many of us were taught to do it in metric first, and then convert the answer into imperial in order to avoid any errors. Like seriously, who wants to work in pounds-force, pounds-mass, slugs, fathoms, etc...
Well, she is in the school system. Expect anything less? They gotta keep up that indoctrination!
