I think he definitely used the crowd for "something". The mainstream narrative of course is that he sent a large crowd of angry people as a fuck you seditious act on Congress. But...who knows what his real intentions were.

I think Pompeo is also a (?) at this point. Like Pence was, there seem to be arguments for both sides.

Of course the mainstream narrative is that he's just hiding out the last remaining days he has as president in shame as the clock runs out...but that's of course extremely uncharacteristic of him. Hiding out isn't something that Trump does.

Let's say that all of this is true, and that Trump is aware of this. The last major obstacle would be the extent to which the swamp extends to the military and/or the 3-letter agencies.

There is the fear that even if Trump were to call martial law or Insurrection Act, the swamp part of the military might turn on him too. Hell, I've seen one possibility that all this deepfake videos are a bad sign, because there is also the possibility that the swamp military already turned on him and are holding him and his family under lockdown against his will.
