The problem with gold and silver is that there is never any kind of dividend or capital gain. It's great to have them when stocks crash, and they will obviously appreciate in value, but it doesn't compound.

The rest, if you aren't going to touch it for a decade, the most prudent thing to do is, yes, leave it in the stock market. If it goes bust, it will go back up eventually, as is evidenced by history. Literal world wars happen, stocks eventually go back up.
If it gets to a point that things are so broken that it never goes back up, well, you've got bigger problems that go beyond money.
