That is nutz. A country’s greatest asset is is population.

If they did that they would kill the country’s economy.

It goes against the countries best interests.

Not plausible.

The only people corporations are beholden to are their stock holders.

The only reason they exist is to turn a profit,

They are private. They are not regulated by the first amendment. That only protects you from the government.

Your IP traffic can still be blocked coming into the country from wherever else as it has to travel across the trans Atlantic cable.

There are a number of main routing/switching hubs across the US internet backbone. They could block traffic as it enters the country. And, again, telcos.

This is actually how the NSA tapped in and duplicated some the traffic to snoop on people.

All you need is one pc and you’ve got a server. “Tons of pc’s together” is a cluster and you need clusters for redundancy, scalability and to support the workload as your user base increases.

Folks use AWS because they offer elasticity some you don’t have to worry about adding more physical servers to your clusters every time you run out if capacity/become processor/memory/storage constrained. With heavy traffic bandwidth becomes an issue.

This is why so many companies run on public clouds.

They still rely on telecom companies for connectivity. I’ve worked in that industry before. They can easily cut service to any place they consider is a home to “agitators”.

Ok bit of a brain dump here...

Switzerland is under treaty with the US. Protonmail will protect you from prying eyes up to a point. It will not protect you from the US government if they go knocking.

https://protonmail.com/law-enforcement

VPN providers collect a lot more info than they let on. They do not want to be shut down. It’s bad for business.

VPN providers see all your traffic and if server with a legal warrant will turn over your data.

Oh and I’ve seen TOR bandied about a bit Anyone operating an exit node can see all your traffic. Law enforcement has used this fact to their advantage in the past.

You want a blockchain based system.

Period.

That said, if you are connected to the internet three really is nothing 100% secure. The only way to be secure is to not connect.

Also if you own a cellphone you may as well just put a sign in your front yard and list all your activities.

Same if you use WiFi. In public OR in your home.

At the end of the day most people walk around with a tracking device in their pocket everyday. So the government has no need to “chip” anyone. They’ve done it to themselves already.

Oh and, not that you mentioned it but, that schematic that’s been circulating that’s supposed to be of the 5G tracking chip in the COVID vaccine - is the circuit diagram for a BOSS Heavy Metal guitar effects pedal. 😂

At the end of the day the only way to communicate and be moderately sure no one is eaves dropping to do it in person in a “secure” location.

Just make sure there are no windows. Any technically minded 15 year old kid with an Internet connection can hear what you are saying if they wanted to.

This is just one of many devices that are easily built: https://hackaday.com/2010/09/25/laser-mic-makes-eavesdropping-remarkably-simple/

I’ve been into tech since the 70. There really is no place safe or secure in a technological world. :-/

And don’t even get me started on how easy most locks are to pick. 🙄

Also talk of “War” is one if the reasons they want to shut this place down.

Just sayn’

So I understand the sentiment but it is 100% impossible to turn the US into a third world country. And here is why.

First world countries are those that align themselves with the United States and European world view

Second world countries are those that align themselves with Chinese/Russian world views.

Third world countries are those that do not align with either US, Chinese or Russian world views.

You often see folks say third world when they mean Banana Republic or sometimes just poor countries.

Also a lot of folks seem to think there is something inherently wrong with being a third world country so they think this is some kind of diss.

This is a common misunderstanding and I see a lot of folks make it.

So you see you can’t, by definition, turn the US into a third world country.

From the context I think since you are complaining about censorship of radicalized ideas (in terms of the status quo) that what you are getting at is you feel these actions make us look like a Second World country.

I really do not understand how so many law makers fail to recognize the difference between the Federal Government and a commercial enterprise.

The 1st amendment only guarantees you the right not to be silenced by the government. Which FaceBook, Twitter, etc. definitely are not. So they would fight that and likely win.

Besides once the optics of what happened on the 6th fade from memory it’ll go back to business as usual. People go about their lives. They, for the most part, forget. Eventually social media companies will loosen up because they are in it for the money and we are their product. When that happens everyone will be back to saying whatever they want.

He was riffing off a quote often (incorrectly) attributed to Sinclair Lewis “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross”. (And variations there of.)

Apparently everybody has to have a snazzy catch phrase.
