The point is the government doesn't know where all the guns are so they will have a hard time confiscating them. Also 4473s are supposed to be stored only at the FFL. I expect a lot of FFLs to burn their documents if the government ever decides to start confiscation.

Private sales are still legal in almost all states. There's no paper trail if you paid cash to buy a gun from somebody or you inherited one or were given one by someone you know.

Almost nobody is going to register their guns because they know the next step is officers coming to confiscate them. And if officers are showing up at someone's house to lock them up for having unregistered guns that person doesn't have much to lose anyway. If another Waco happens I wouldn't be surprised if federal agents start being assassinated.
This could potentially start a civil war over trying to enforce it.
You can kind of see the cycle they intend to create. They're going to pass some federal gun laws that hundreds of counties and some states will refuse to enforce. Then the federal government will call the refusal to enforce the laws an insurrection and will send in the ATF and FBI to Waco someone to set an example. This will lead to people parking more Ryder trucks in front of federal buildings which will justify more crackdowns.

Some predictions over the next 8 years: The Harris administration will pass some gun control laws that are so absurd huge amounts of counties and states will have an official policy of not enforcing them. For example Biden said he wants all magazines over 10 rounds to be registered with a $200 tax stamp the same as a machine gun. The federal government will get mad that the laws aren't being enforced and will send the ATF in to Waco someone to set an example. Things escalate from here on both sides.
