Very good point. There are 4 universities near me I would recommend. Berkeley and Stanford for STEM, (I'm well aware a lot of lunatics arise from their humanities programs... UC Davis and Fresno State for agriculture. Keep them based in those, and they're good. I was neighbors with a Davis enonogy graduate who was winemaster at a large Napa Valley winery.. He did well... My first daughter ignored all this and majored in art. (ceramics, facepalm...) But, she's already selling her work, which is better than I ever did as an aspiring artist. I stayed in the medical arena for about 31 years, did well, until I crossed my diversity boss. DO NOT DO THAT if you are a white male. There is no more of a WOKE sector than healthcare. Sadly, a lot of people are not open to that. Hence the 12 step reference. A lot aren't open to that either, unfortunately. What I do know is that psychotherapy didn't do shit for me.
You cannot emphasize this enough. I've suffered from depression most all of my adult life. Many many many times have felt the urge to punch out. I've always hung onto the thread that it "MIGHT" get better in the future. It always has. Doesn't mean there will be tranquility forever. Despite my career being destroyed, it always has gotten better. I'm not at all in any picnic situation now, but I'm not contemplating punching out.
If you need therapy or desperately need contact, find a twelve step group, even if you don't completely fit the profile. No one fits exactly. No matter what, you WILL be welcomed. The prevention hotlines if that's not your thing. Look to the right, There's a link. Come back and fight for what's rightfully yours.
