My Mom and I watched the 2017 film, “Mark Felt” last night – several things occurred to us:
-was there any hope that this film in 2017 would help to create a positive feeling about the FBI having spied on Candidate, President-Elect and President Trump?
-would it help to associate in the minds of the American public Donald Trump with Richard Nixon, thus “Russia Russia Russia” and the Steele Dossier could be the new Watergate?
- by any stretch of the imagination were we supposed to think that James Comey – so tall – was endeavoring to maintain the integrity of the Bureau, as Mark Felt did?
Even if the above thoughts resonate with reality and indeed that was the hope, what was the very interesting part was the role of William Sullivan, who came across as just emerging from the swampiest swamp, looking for that RE-VENGE (for being fired previously) – who was returning to the Bureau - to take it in a different direction.
Mark Felt (played by Liam Neesom) made a comment about what the Bureau was now being used to do: investigate senators and their mistresses and/or homosexual lovers.
Having read things about the FBI’s COINTELPRO efforts over the years (during Hoover) targeting Black Panthers, Weather Underground and various anti-war activists, among others – now it seemed that the focus would be on members of the United States Senate.
That struck me as interesting as under Nixon, with Kissinger, this new relationship with the People’s Republic of China was being developed – purportedly to blunt the Soviet Union during those Cold War years –
but this whole wonderful friendship with the PRC required that we also look away with regard to Taiwan –
and now Nixon – who had been one of the all-time people warning about the Communists, etc. (eg Alger Hiss), was courting the PRC to the detriment of Taiwan, the non-communist Chinese nation?
Why, when we were still strong, did we deal with the PRC as if we were dealing from a position of abject weakness, disregarding the efforts of those rejecting communism?
The Shanghai Communique was hailed as the great accomplishment of Nixon and Kissinger. -
but it merely kicked the can down the road for many, many years as to how we would stand with regard to the people of Taiwan, if they did NOT want to “reunite” with the PRC at some point?
There is a really great book which was published in 1997, “The Coming Conflict with China” where the authors (Richard Bernstein and Ross H. Munro) discuss that “kicking the can down the road.”
What if signing that damn Shanghai Communique was really the signing of escrow papers for selling out not only Taiwan, but the United States of America?
The destruction of the integrity and credibility of the FBI in a continuum of compromise, using it mainly to investigate and ultimately intimidate those who are “outsiders” to “The Plan” – who would not go along with selling out America. Senators who would be asked to vote a certain way, really important.
Maybe the Shanghai Communique was actually just one of the elements of an escrow agreement between the CCP of the PRC and those who would sell out our country – a very long escrow, to be sure – but one which was supposed to be closing soon . . .
however, the deal fell through with the election of an outsider as our President.
Even if you don't like Joe Biden (I don't like him), I think anyone could see he is going through a continuum of mental suffering . . .
