You are correct here. My local news media is controlled by their national handlers. You can watch the narratives trickle down from the top to local channels. Even my teeny weeny little town paper often reprints stories & when they aren't simply reprinting them it is easy to see that the local journalist put an 8th graders amount of effort into not plagiarizing the original & nothing more. Not a single ounce of additional research or even an added thought of their own. But. People are human, & tons of journalists are narcissistic. If you read enough stories about the same topic you are eventually able to piece together from the many the few facts that remaind true thought them all.
I know you're kidding ... but many moons ago I actually received a permission slip in my elementary aged children's backpacks one year. It was for a Family Math Pizza Party. The sole purpose was to re-teach the parents how to math so that they could help their children complete their common core homework. It urged parents to attend by telling us that our kids would fail if they couldn't grasp the techniques. Literally every question was worth 2 points. One for getting the correct answer & another for getting it the "common core" way. I didn't attend that family night. I never relearned how to do math the stupid way. & my children are no longer enrolled in public schools. They don't math the stupid way either.

I honestly believe she would've received slightly more attention had she picked a different platform. Intentional or not. She literally forced the hand of the bully. And the bully chose not to highlight the topic. Presumably because it's harder to gaslight when you're constantly exposing how you operate. Had they pushed the be best agenda in schools, communities, cultural institutions, & on TV even the normies would've seen through the veil.

I don't think they can afford to not acquit him. As a city they've already made massive moves to try to hire more police after their knee-jerk reaction to defend them after Floyd. If they convict him, they will never convince another officer to apply in that city.
