I've watched videos on milling out 80% lowers and it doesn't look easy or cheap. It seems best to have a CNC, but that's $$$, and even if you just drill them out, it can't be too cheap. I guess if you want one, sure, why not, who cares about the cost, but the numbers of these out there have to be pretty small, and anyways, I bet ATF can get deets on who bought 80% lowers. The ghost gun concern is probably just a way to scare people, specifically Republican reps and sens into voting for more gun control.
Thanks. Presumably such guns aren't very good, or very safe. 3D-printed guns are at best good for one shot. Slam-fire shotguns don't reload easily. Making anything much better takes a well stocked workshop, and any good gun you build is going to be very expensive compared to one you could buy. Finishing an 80% lower looks really hard unless you have the right equipment (see any number of videos on YT), plus I bet ATF can get deets on who has bought 80% lowers, and also who has bought uppers to match. The number of decent ghost guns out there must be tiny, way too small to make much of a difference no matter what. I bet hand-finished unregistered 80% lowers are never used in crimes.
