To be honest I don’t have a great, definitive answer.
There is a lot of variability to the immune response that the virus provokes even in asymptomatic cases. Some of them get what’s essentially the same effect as a vaccine, if not stronger. For others, the effect is weaker.
To rephrase; even asymptomatic cases provide some level of immunity. For some people the level of immunity is high and the vaccine will not be too helpful; for others, the vaccine will act as a good booster. It’s difficult to know without a bunch of blood tests (and even those may be inconclusive) so I would personally think to get it regardless, but that is just a personal choice, and clearly subject to change based on the guidelines with which the vaccine is provided.
Haha I do this for a living (lung doctor). Not like I’m a walking Wikipedia on any other topic out there!
The mRNA vaccine is nice because if it works well in Phase 3 trials, then we can take a very similar approach to developing vaccines quickly for very many diseases, including future pandemics.
The media has done a very bad job educating people about how this all works.
In any society it is good to have a spectrum of very paranoid and very not-paranoid people, because the former raise points that many others might not. Points that can often be addressed, but that the less paranoid might not ever think to raise.
The problem with discussions about Covid and especially vaccines is that immunology is incredibly complex and it is extremely difficult to simplify it because there is no good analogy for a lot of the interactions that happen.
An autoimmune disease is a condition where your body mistakes its own proteins as foreign and mounts an immune response. “Auto” means “self” in this case. The vaccine creates an immune response to foreign proteins.
I cannot answer the allergy question as easily because there’s a lot of complexity here that has to be unpackaged, but the straightforward answer is that a different branch of the immune system causes allergy attacks. That’s not the branch that these vaccines stimulate.
I don’t think the government will send law enforcement to force you to do it.
Much like Covid, the vaccine is likely to not produce symptoms or it will be at most a mild feeling of being under the weather for a day or two. This is just your body creating symptoms of itself, because it has literally found a foreign “invader” (protein) in your body.
However, the vaccine will prevent those with high risks of dying from Covid from that fate.
What people should understand is that it isn’t the virus itself that is dangerous, it is the added factor of a massive immune response, which really throws some randomness into the equation of who has zero symptoms or mild symptoms and who gets killed. I’ve had immunocompromised patients with extremely mild symptoms; I’ve had healthy, middle-aged patients die.
Even if there are risks, it is inconceivable to me that the vaccine would be MORE risky than catching Covid itself.
Yes. Definitively fake news.
Still fucking hate China, though.
No problem. Glad it was useful.
I made a reply to describe it. Let me know if it helps.
The shot does not change your RNA. Let me explain why/how.
RNA is just a “photocopy” of DNA that your cells make so they can use them as blueprints to make proteins without having to somehow pull the raw DNA out of the nucleus (library) of the cell.
The RNA is what the cell reads to build proteins, and it is temporary: each photocopy gets degraded after a short while in the cell body. This gives your cells control over what proteins are made, by controlling what DNA is allowed to be photocopied into temporary RNA copies.
When the cell wants to stop making a protein, it stops the DNA sequence that encodes that protein from being photocopied into any more RNA, and so any RNA blueprints still floating around outside the nucleus end up degraded without any more photocopies to replace them, so no more of the protein is made.
The moderna vaccine puts RNA (temporary by definition) into the body of some of your cells, which encodes the spike protein of the coronavirus.
The RNA is used as a blueprint by the cells to make some copies of the spike protein, which the cell presents on its surface and this allows your immune system to recognize the foreign protein and make an immune response against it.
However... because RNA is temporary, it doesn’t last long inside the cells. Just long enough to make some of these proteins, before it gets degraded like all other RNA. (Proteins are also temporary, and they get degraded after some time too, by the way.)
Because this sequence of RNA is simply not part of your genes (meaning, it isn’t in your DNA), there’s no more of it that can be made. So by definition it is temporary.
The concern for safety is not related to whether it will change your genes or do some other weird stuff.
The causes for concern are primarily:
-
Whether your immune system will “overreact” to the foreign proteins and cause damage through a runaway stress/inflammation response (phase 2 trials have shown this is not the case).
-
Whether your immune system, having seen these proteins in the vaccine and prepared antibodies & immune cells against them, will mount such an over-the-top response when it sees the actual virus that it will cause more damage than if it hadn’t gotten the vaccine to begin with. This is what current phase 3 trials are seeking to test as we speak.
Keep in mind that this is all just for Moderna’s RNA-based vaccine. Doesn’t apply to vaccines using other approaches.
Doesn’t the government give you a pension? Isn’t that assistance? You don’t want to be allowed to vote anymore?
There are many proud Muslim Americans who love this country as much as you do. Many of them native born citizens of America.
Makes me real disappointed to see shit like this here.
WAITER, let me get the burritos instead please
Yeah, no thanks.
So you think the hospitals are plotting to kill people because it will help Joe? How do they know they aren’t actually voting for Joe though
Yeah, can you please link it?
Scanned into PDF and open in Illustrator
Where are the numbers for that 90% claim?
Why do they want us dead
Same thing happens when I scan business cards to PDF. It pulls the detected text into its own layer so it can do OCR. Fancier systems will separate the text into different layers by font and by angle so that the OCR can run more efficiently.
Looks like my truck nuts
That’s very well said. I think a great barrier is that the big picture view of business isn’t taught in school.
They offer classes on microeconomics and macroeconomics and smart people are put off by what a bunch of bullshit is stuffed into these classes. Brimming with nonsense about a magical island with people bartering sheep for cattle that provides people with no direct context for why people form businesses, and no case studies about how simple businesses can form and succeed.
Young people are chronically oppressed into thinking that they themselves cannot be successful in creating their own enterprise, and a distrust of “private business” becomes a natural progression of this thinking. Surely this person had to do evil, disgusting things to get there, things I valiantly will not do, and so they should be torn down, brought to justice, and their success and capital evenly redistributed in atonement.
A serious issue is that not everyone is well suited to operate influentially in a society based on competition. There are people who are much more socialistically oriented and who would do great things in more socialistic, communal regimes (at least in those that don’t go too far and become corrupted). But we need those people in more capitalistic societies too. There are many things that businesses cannot do well, especially things that don’t have monetary reward or which intrinsically depend on spending and not earning. Important to nurture these people and their ideas as well.
All in all, it is important to humanize people, regardless of their platform or achievements. It’s much harder to hate a business leader if you know it would be possible to become one yourself; much harder to hate a Marxist when you realize they are every bit as well-intentioned as you, but simply the product of different experiences or exposures.
You are completely right.
We are each necessarily constrained to a narrow view. There just isn’t enough brain for us to each have this massive gamut of perspective on the world.
Instead we must rely on many individual brains, each looking at the world slightly differently, to really get an encompassing view.
An encompassing view is what allows us, both as a society and as individuals, to make informed decisions.
Trying to silence others is one of the most awful things I can imagine. Incredibly counterproductive. In silencing others you trample the virtue of individuality that makes this country so great.
The views of the far left are incredibly valuable precisely because they are so different from what a typical conservative believes. The opposite is also true. These perspectives can either shift your own views (in either direction), strengthen your own convictions, or both.
Thank you for standing strong in your beliefs.
There are no systemic changes to DNA that could be accomplished with a vaccine.
There are also no nanoparticles that track you. For tracking, something requires an antenna and likely a battery, and a nanoparticle cannot act as an antenna in any frequency that is likely to escape your body.
If the government wanted to track you, they’d ask AT&T or Verizon for data about your cellphone. Or they’d ask one of the private companies like Facebook, Google, etc. because they already track you.
Something important to consider is that research in general is all about clout chasing. You want to be the first to discover, first to break a story about a new finding. Scientists get the vaccine for research, including for toxicological analysis. If they found some weird stuff in it, it could make their career for a lifetime.
Also, if the government really had the technology to do some of these things, there are many other vectors available. They could’ve put these things into headache meds, into the water supply, and so on. It’s extremely unlikely to me.
