I'm not advocating that we not fight back. As I said, I think this guy acted 100% properly. If this guy had been 18+ and a resident of Kenosha, then the other points I made wouldn't apply and his defense would be much more straightforward. No matter which way you slice it. A 17 year old, driving himself some 20-30 miles TO a riot with a rifle (of any sort) doesn't look good.

This argument here is basically what every gun grabber said when various states were pssing concealed carry laws. That every disagreement would end in a shootout. That fender benders would lead to massacres. that the average person just couldn't be trusted to carry a firearm on their person without endangering the general public. None of this was borne out.

Nothing bad could happen with all the different type types of weapons that could blow a hole in the side of a plane.

What you have said here applies equally to the federal air marshalls The risk that something bad happens if an air marshall fires is about the same as what happens when a regular person fires.

Plus, a "hole" is so dramatic. Handgun rounds are small and many may not even penetrate the fuselage. Additionally, the worst that happens is decompression which means a descent to lower altitude and a quick landing. Its not like the plane will rip in half. Fun fact: If an air marshall does the same thing, the plane will also be landing quickly.

So I expect to get downvoted but in the interest of being impartial:

I think this guy was 100% legally and morally justified in using force. He was attacked by a mob, he attempted retreat, he only fired at the last possible second....seriously the guy with the skateboard who was shot was winding up with his skateboard when he went down. Another guy had pulled a gun on him. So I think its a clean shoot and the actions of the WI govt to nail him are reprehensible and show the preferential interest of the state in facilitating the social change that ANTIFA desires over protecting the liberty and freedoms of average people.

However, there are a few things that will make his defense difficult.

• The first is that he's an underage kid in the middle of a riot. While he may be able to possess a rifle at 17, its not like he could say he had a family or a business to protect.

• The second is that he went to the riot....not like the riot came to his neighborhood. We don't yet know if he had any connection to any person or business in the area but given that he's 17 and his generic video statement of "protecting property" it seems unlikely. He showed bad judgement in this regard. Now, he's 17 so that's kinda par for the course but it still works against him.

• The third is that he fled the state afterwards and went back home. Shooting people like that and then leaving is a bad look and is generally interpreted by everyone to show that you knew you were acting badly. This isn't to say he shouldn't have gotten himself out of the riot (he absolutely should have done that) but he shouldn't have fled the state either. At the very least, go up to the cops and tell them whats up in person and then immediately STFU and invoke the 5A. Again, he's 17 so he probably wasn't thinking straight and panicked but it will still be used against him.
