I can’t believe it folks! I didn’t try that hard this year to convince my mom to vote Trump given how it went in 2016. I thought she was too far gone. So I was just happy when my son cast his first presidential vote for Trump - he was another one who wasn’t super enthusiastic about Trump in 2016.

So imagine my surprise today when she sends me a link calling out election fraud and tells me on the phone she voted Trump! I just about fell over.

We’ll see how it goes in the courts but if my mom is concerned about election fraud then I think it must be a good sign.

Now I am not the most vocal evangelist for Trump but I can happily report that my son, first-time presidential voter in a swing state, voted for Trump/Pence.

I think my other son is not going to vote- he has shown zero interest in registering. So that is three votes for Pence in our household.

My mom and dad are beyond convincing - but maybe I can persuade them to stay home.

Hi everyone-

Thanks to any and all who sent well wishes and prayers my way. I know there may have been some who were skeptical of my story, and that’s ok.

To recap- i am a HCW in Michigan, was exposed to COVID+ coworker without PPE, then developed some mild symptoms last week.

I never did get very ill- the worst was Sunday when I might have had a mild temperature for an hour or so.

I had chest discomfort this whole past week with rare coughing; and mild GI symptoms. My coworker only had GI symptoms.

I started a HCQ post-exposure trial and will finish treatment tomorrow.

Today for the first time I think the chest discomfort is 90% better. No GI symptoms for several days. Whatever this was, it’s gone. I will go back to work on Monday. I will wear a mask.

I know there are lots of people who might get very sick or even some who might die from COVID19, but many more will only get a mild illness.

I hope we can work out a way to protect the vulnerable, care for those who fall ill, and restart the economy when it’s safe to do so.

Hang in there, see you at the next press briefing. We are going to get through this together.

I went yesterday to get tested and I think overall they have a good system down.

Some tips in case you might have to go-

-keep your window up as much as possible to avoid exposing people. I rolled it down to talk to someone directing traffic and I wish I hadn’t. Mostly you can hear through the car window.
-have a marker and pad of paper handy -have all your identification handy

If you called ahead, ask what information you will be asked at the screening site. I was only told name and DOB, but they asked phone and address and license#. I had my name and DOB written down, but if I had known about the other information, I would have written that down as well. Or at least been more prepared.

I wish I had written information bigger so staff didn’t have to get so close to my window.

Be prepared to wait. At 5 min per car, it takes an hour to get through 12 people. That’s how long it took for me.

I am thankful for all the staff outside, regardless of weather, who are putting themselves at risk to do this screening.

Already got results- negative.

Ok - so I don't feel so bad today, more calm. I did yoga, had breakfast, showered and dressed for work (at home), and am ready to get my test.

Here's a timeline -

Day -7: Exposure to coworker who got sick and found to be COVID19+

Day -2 approximately: mild GI symptoms

Day 1 of symptoms: Mild cough on way to work, told not to come in

Day 2: Found out coworker was COVID19+

Day 3: Felt mildly feverish, started to freak out

Today is Day 4 of symptoms.

I will start prophylactic medications today (on a trial). I still have mild symptoms. So far the symptoms I've noticed are loose stools, abdominal discomfort, very mild cough, mild burning in my chest especially when I breathe, very mild runny nose. So far just the one episode of feeling slightly feverish and unwell yesterday. Sometimes I feel a little lightheaded but it passes quickly.

I tried to take your advice yesterday - drank water, took zinc, ate some oranges. Read a few chapters of a book, went to bed. I am focusing on the fact that I still feel pretty good. And if I get sick, most likely it will be just a relatively short time of feeling miserable and I will recover.

I was a little afraid about being sick and alone, but I guess most folks will have to deal with that during these times.

So in summary, not feeling too bad. I've done everything I can and now I just have to wait.

I am getting a little nervous - HCW with COVID19 exposure - sent home Friday because I developed a very mild cough with chest irritation. I felt basically fine until this afternoon... but starting to feel a little achy and maybe feverish... I feel like something is off.

I am trying not to freak out, but I am definitely on edge.

Spoke to my sister after telling her I was going to start a trial of medication to protect against getting sick from COVID19... and she said, well I hope it's not that medication Trump is talking about it. You're not going to take medical advice from Trump?

Actually sis, the trial is looking at hydroxychloroquine. The one he tweeted about.

Sigh.

Still feel ok today. Have a chest tickle and that’s it.

Apparently folks were understandably a little skeptical when I posted previously. Testing reports are always a little behind what is happening on the ground. I won’t be posting any pictures - doxxing and HIPAA.

But Michigan cases have risen - mostly in Metro Detroit - and official reports now reflect that reality.

I am now quarantined for a week because I have very mild and nonspecific symptoms.

“The people of God had to keep to the Sabbath and, every seventh year, forgo working the land and cancel all debts (Nehemiah 10:31).“

I just read this and made me think about our forced Sabbath because of this COVID epidemic. Sharing in case anyone else finds the comparison interesting.

It’s getting bad pedes... ICUs are filling up, hospital beds filling up, health care workers getting sick...

Storm is here.

I know official guidelines are no masks if you’re not sick, but please consider all the ways you can prevent transmission of this illness.

Is it even possible to stay six feet away from everyone and wash your hands every time you touch something?

Even if you can walk around only with runny nose from COVID19 - you can shed virus that makes other people sick. Our ICUs are struggling right now.

We need to limit the number of people who are getting sick to give us time to get masks, gowns, ventilators, etc.

We are building temporary hospital wards. It’s crazy.

We are closing week 1 of our hospital being turned upside down in response to the COVID19 outbreak.

We have moved significant amounts of healthcare to telemedicine. Our system has in-house COVID19 testing. We have implemented drive-through testing. Our ER, inpatient wards, and ICUs are adapting to three cohorts of patients - COVID19 confirmed; COVID19 suspected; and others who need to be in the hospital for other reasons but need to be protected from infection.

I am hoping that our mortality rate remains in the single digits, but significant numbers of patients require multiple days in hospital, many in ICUs.

PPE is definitely in short supply - since hospitals are rationing to protect most at-risk workers, I am planning to make my own mask.

My thoughts for today - if you have PPE to donate to hospitals, or can make DIY face masks (I think Joann has a tutorial), consider doing so to help your fellow Americans.

Stay safe, keep praying and we will get through this.

I think the most beautiful thing I am seeing is unity and generosity, and our willingness to help our fellow man.

Of course I am seeing plenty of panic, and selfishness, and blaming, but I want to focus on all the goodness in our community as well.

I work at a hospital and fellow pedes- we are definitely in a crisis. Our hospital is going to run out of beds taking care of these patients. We are already running out of PPE. I am worried about my colleagues- 30% of cases in other cases are health care workers.

I am so glad Trump is giving daily press conferences with his team. They are doing a great job.

It’s going to be a tough few months but glad we have him in charge.

For folks who are not taking this seriously- please follow Trump’s lead. He is marshaling all resources to fight this- he is calling this a war.

Stay home if you can.
