I work in a grocery store and today a customer approached me for help finding an item.. Does anyone know how these things work? If you have to press a button to activate it wouldn't that alert the assailant to the fact that you're wearing it? That would be great if it prompted them to behave themselves but knowing these sorts of people their reaction would probably be to try and steal it. If they steal it successfully and get away aren't you screwed? Do they make any that can be activated via some other means?

Promising news, she's contacted an attorney and they advised her to request accommodation from her employer and if they deny or attempt to retaliate she can contact her local human rights office and if they issue a right to sue they would consider taking on the case. It sounds like it would only work out if their accommodations were unreasonable or led to a significant wage decrease. Unreasonable sounds like a pretty vague term. To be honest I doubt she'll actually move ahead with it as the stress of getting into such a conflict isn't great for a person in her fragile state but maybe she'll have a change of heart in the future or at the very least will inspire someone else to try something similar. Who knows.

I don't really know what to do. I'll get fired if I don't wear it. I make enough at my job that I can afford to work low hours and focus on school, but I can't take another pay cut and just don't have the qualifications right now to get something that isn't entry-level. I know this is 100% political fuckery and I have headaches constantly. I feel angry and ashamed every time I go into work. But I need to finish school so I can work from home. No idea how to reconcile the whole picking up your cross and not being a snowflake thing with not wanting to contribute to something I know to be evil. The best thing I can think to do is keep my head down and play the game well enough that I can get out as quickly as possible
