I only defend God and the way of being that He sent His Son to show us. Systematic religion breeds power structures that become necessarily corrupt. Even through requiring people to take a statements in some particular literal way. Forms of idolatry, I say.
As an institution, I regard Church as 'mostly broken.' The Church are those people who have God in them, which physical Churches have loosely held together over the years. Think of God like humanity's dankest meme. Quite viral.

More pleasant, less anxious. More loving, less hateful. More courageously yourself, less hidden. It's a tome that documents our discovery of God over time. We are expected to grow toward the best Kingdom in all ways.

I was an atheist-in-all-but-name for most of my life. Hear me when I say, not all Christians are Christian, and not all who see the face of God call Him God. A beautiful human identity expresses the fruit of the relationship.
The proof of God is a paradox. If He came in and showed you His face without giving you any room to doubt, it would be tantamount to enslaving you. This would not be loving. God does not create 4-sided triangles. God cannot trespass in a mind.
Consider this to re-imagine the idea of proof:
The proof that our legs are built for running is seen best in the beauty of a runner's legs.
The proof of God can never be delivered to someone who believes more strongly that there is no proof than that there might be.
