Black Sharpies are great permanent markers (I've had a purple Sharpie fade on me, blacks AFAICT are still nice and permanent) and nice blacks should be easy to scan. Isn't it an optical scanner? I don't recall Sharpie blacks being reflective either. Why not Sharpie?
