She denies her grandchild, that is even worse. All it would take are loving gestures from them towards the child, to change so much as he/she goes through life. In a way it would be more important than Hunter's behavior. It's the grandparents that can bridge a lot of trouble in a family and keep lines of communication open. There's just no excuse for their behavior.
I have been shown through my own rescue and other miracles, that God's love for us is very real. Learning that, changed my entire life. Church-going religion is not for me, and a private and personal relationship with Jesus and my own burning faith in Him is my spiritual, supernatural answer. I lived without this peace most of my life so I know the difference. I understand what you experienced!
So where is he now, after a recent report that no one has been able to communicate with him for weeks? I keep hoping to learn he is safely in the USA and protected by the entire military or something. His only real path to freedom is through being charged here then pardoned. Or exhonerated without charges. Either way few on Earth will need protection equal to his. He can bring down everything.
