Get away from the PNW before you are trapped there for any reason. The outlook for cities there is not good. I have family in the PNW, they warn me of the insanity going on with their Liberal lawmakers and they tell me they wish they had never become entrenched there, especially Seattle. I spent decades on the west coast and before that, Hawaii. It takes adjustment to move to where we are land-locked. It's a trade-off. I would not give up my mountains, pines and snow now, to be back on a coastline. I highly recommend the high country part of Arizona where I am now, 4700 to 8000 ft elevation.There are other gorgeous places, like MT, and friends in AK seem happy.
I was very happy in Rapid City South Dakota in The black Hills, Rockerville to be specific. Quite loved it but family reasons moved me away. Have to say though, since I am a horse person, that it is much too severe in winter for having horses unless you have shelters with heat lamps. Winters there are severe.
