Detest this pope's forked tongue. But in reality, civil union is the only legit protection Gay couples ever needed to be able to look out for each other legally, medically, financially. It was never necessary to use the word "marraige". Using it was an attack on the traditional family who has a right to retain the title of being married in the eyes of God. Nothing wrong with civil union as a practice or a descriptive term. Who wants someone who has been living with and loving their partner for decades to be denied the right to be medical power or attorney or to receive a bequest or title to their home, if one of them becomes ill. Not me! They need CU Saying this because two of my oldest friends are Gay and have been together 35 years now. They got married to protect each other. (Calif) I would always have been much more comfortable with them being a civil union than "married". Call me old-fashioned but I like what the term "married" traditionally meant.
It happens because people have sex too soon, which clouds judgement, and then find out who they are really with, and by then they are in love and think they can change the other person if they hang it there. Guess what? Maybe they pretend to change... but no one can maintain a pretense for 2 years. Don't ever, ever marry someone before the pretenses have dropped.
Good for you. Don't back out on this. You let someone with festering contempt for you remain in your life, you would sooner or later greatly rue the day you weakened and let them stay. Condemnation kills every good thing.

If no internet is because the power is off, it brings up a few considerations. Electricity out, fridge issues, other utility issues. I am on a well, if no elect, no pump, so no water. No heat? Stuff like that. Maybe markets would close if they had no power? I can imagine a store trying to operate on a cash basis, no one has much cash, ATMs aren't working, and stores with a lot of cash would probably get robbed anyway. it would be a good idea to at least have a few jugs of water and canned food, and pet food, to last a bit. And fill up your gas tank.
