Imo one way to lessen server load would be to stop sending users to the comment page every time they click on a post title. Instead send them straight to the destination page. Only load the comments if they click the comments button.
Here's an idea for the mods: someone with no comments and no posts should not be able to DM. Force these bloggers to comment publicly. You know they won't out of fear of being cancelled by their mob for posting on an "alt right™ hate site".

It's very similar to how Orwell described the Soviet's handling of speech regarding Nazi Germany.
When the Soviets were allied with Nazi Germany, people in the USSR who spoke negatively of the Nazis were cancelled. Almost overnight, when Germany invaded the Soviet Union, the opposite became the case. Now you were cancelled for speaking positively of the Nazis. A standard their past-selves from 24 hours before would have violated.
