Probably a less popular opinion, but personally I would even be willing to extend an olive branch to the other side and say we can have “common sense” gun laws, but only by constitutional amendment. If you can’t get enough support for your idea to pass law via constitutionally prescribed mechanisms, maybe it’s not “common sense”.
I think it’s important we rephrase the argument. The government can’t violate the 2nd amendment without violating the entire constitution, including the bill of rights. If you support “gun control” or “gun safety “, then it’s easy to say:
- we should tax free speech, public assembly, religious attendance, petitions against government
- right to privacy and rights against government seizures requires a background check
- trial by jury is only meant for military and law enforcement
I support 2A, but to me it’s more important to support the entire constitution. If we erode one part of it, we erode our faith in government. I love our rights and I want to see them all protected.
I lurk about 10 times a day hoping to finally see Congress in cuffs. I love the pedes here but don’t have much to post about.
I’m still cautiously optimistic about what we’re learning recently, but if I’m going to put on my tin foil hat I’d speculate that the whole point is just to throw the American people and political system into general disarray and maybe get some civil conflict going.
I personally get the sense that someone has been playing the long game here. If there are no good candidates to run this cycle, would you blow your shot with the fraud play anyway?
If they get caught, it seems like it would basically be the end of the Democratic Party for at least a decade or more. What would be the point of holding your cards if you’re going all in on the fraud play?
Classic stolen title storyline. We know the baby face wins in the end
Left or Right, North or South, I don’t like children used as political props.
Honestly, with all the biologists they had, somebody should have known that.
Thinking a bit more about it... while I definitely wouldn’t support an amendment like this, starting a conversation about an amendment like this immediately raises into question the constitutionality of existing gun laws. I definitely think we should re frame this as being less about my scary AR and more about the constitution and law.
