You can sub out this work to dozens of companies for incredibly less money, the employer is right. It may be profitable in house, but certainly not union in house.
The big issue is that if he is red flag swatted without support he could be framed, confiscated, permanently affected, or several other terrifying outcomes even if he is completely innocent.
He needs a lawyer and several video cameras present so he can peacefully surrender to be checked and exonerated. I dont agree with this at all but it's the safest path forward for this particular person in this situation.
